This charity team activity is a very competitive event and brilliant way to improve morale through a sense of shared experience and the simple act of, as a team, giving. Perfect as a conference team building event.

The ‘Amazing Race’ part of the event pits teams against teams as they navigate:

• Detours = photo and movie tasks – creative and often absolutely hilarious
• Pit Stops = assigned places where all teams meet-up, and

…to gain puzzle pieces which, when complete are exchanged for real brand new bikes in boxes.

The event…

Time: 2.5 hours Group Size: up to 250 people

Teams must complete Survivor-style challenges, have a belly full of laughs, and for one team, win the medallions and maybe take away the Grand Prize. This event is a great morale booster and perfect for strengthening teamwork.

Teams complete Cast Away Challenges (some physical, some mental – but all requiring teamwork over individual prowess) head-to-head against other teams. These challenges may include:

• Hunters – using spears and bows and arrows to shoot self-made balloonimals
• Collectors – using catapults to fire fruit which is then caught in a net by your team’s Cast Away
• Communicators – flag communication challenge
• Sailors – building a land-based raft and racing it
• And using GPS units, metal detectors and riddles to find the treasure

The Treasure is usually ‘liquid’ and cold, and shared by everyone. The best team will also take away Cast Away Medallions.

With the ability to be run in many different locations** this two-hour event will tap into most facets of teamwork. Communication, trust, leadership, planning, etc and will be do-able by everyone in your team.

Teams complete missions by taking photos and have free reign to attack the missions in any order. Teams can keep up-to-date with the competition with live leaderboards, and photos making for a fully interactive experience.

At the end of the event, we will play back selected footage on the big screen and present the awards.

A GooseChase typically runs for 1 to1.5 hours, with an additional 30-45 minutes spent in set-up and post-Chase festivities. This varies slightly with the size of the group and the geographical area that teams need to cover. How this event works

Every square on the board involves a short competitive challenge, and teams battle it out whenever their piece lands on another team’s square. Team strategy comes into play as players work out what challenges they’d be good at and what would best help them finish the game with the most points.

Challenges include remote control car races, golf putting, balloon racing, dressing up, word puzzles and way more. Taken out of context these challenges might sound a tad ‘odd’ or you may even be thinking ‘what the ??’ but, within the context of Humanopoly, they work brilliantly – you’ll just have to believe us on that one – you’ll believe it when you play it. A Pub Quiz meets ‘Cranium’ on Steroids. The IQ Interactive Team Quiz isn’t like a ‘normal’ pub quiz – sure, there’s trivia type questions, but there’s also a lot of interaction, movement and team challenges to maximise participation and enjoyment.
Brainiacs won’t have any advantage but switched-on teams will. We guarantee that everyone will be involved and ‘into it’.

My working career began in the early seventies in Australia with a multinational veterinary company before I moved back to New Zealand, and achieved other roles in marketing and management with various companies in New Zealand and Australia.

After 20 years working for others, I started Teamworks New Zealand with a partner, John Stuart, offering Organisational Development, Leadership Development, coaching and teambuilding. During that time we worked with many large and small public and private sector organisations and teams in Australia and New Zealand, often using the outdoors as a tool for learning. I still spend part of my time, particularly during the tourism off season, working in the company I co founded 17 years ago.

I am one of the “originals” who competed in the first ever Coast to Coast multi sport event, which helped spawn the international sport of Adventure Racing, and which gave me the initial inspiration for our Journeys at the Edge trips. The idea of being able run, walk, cycle and kayak through stunning wilderness captured my imagination, and we at Simply Wild have created a multisport Journey which any active person can complete through some of the loveliest wilderness country in the world.

I’m an active runner, hiker, kayaker, and mountain biker. I’ve been involved in many outdoor sports including multisport adventure racing, endurance kayak racing, rock climbing, alpine climbing, caving and sailing. I am the senior guide and Managing Director of Simply Wild.

I love travelling, and so far over the years apart from living around 10 years in Australia ( at two separate times) I’ve travelled throughout the Pacific Islands, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, Thailand, The Caribbean, some of the USA, the UK, France and Italy.

My wife Sue owns a eclectic local café, Broccoli Row, which provides Simply Wild with everything from picnic lunches to silver service dinners. Together we have a son Tim, who is nine, and who occasionally gets to guide with guests who have families of a similar age (when not at school!).
